I have had quite a few dilemmas about what server configuration should host my Directus, I used Plesk thinking to accomodate Directus best but it looks like it was better to stay with cPanel because now I’m facing a major drawback.
I plan to use MercurCLI (the Medusa.js multivendor ecommerce) but it needs PostgresSQL. My hosting provider is telling me that my Plesk server only includes MySQL/MariaDB databases and because of this limitation, even if PostgreSQL is installed manually on the server, Plesk will not integrate with it, it cannot be managed through the Plesk GUI. PostgreSQL would still function for applications but administration would need to be handled outside Plesk (via CLI or external tools). Unless I upgrade to a higher licence of Plesk, of course.
My question is: is there a possibility to use Mercur/Medusa with MySQL? I’m sure someone has the answer…
Hey @Criss, I don’t know of the experience of using Mercur/Medusa I’m afraid, but do know that Medusa has a Discord server in case folks there might be able to provide more experience. If you do learn more about how they suggest handling this, please update us!
hello, since I posted I understood that the whole thing (Mercur+Postgres) could be packed inside a Docker container, instead of relying on installations spread along the server. I have not really grabbed the Container concept but they (the AI) make it look like it’s easy as pie. I shall update this topic as I gather more concrete info.
UPDATE. So it’s possible to pack Postgres into a Docker Container and bypass any Plesk restrictions… I have tried and even installed Mercur. I had to delete it though, because I must discuss with my developer about how to make Directus and Mercur talk to each other (and share data bi-directionally). All this would be much easier if the Directus Team will release a ecommerce template for selfhosted installation, as they did for the Cloud.
